Every wedding I officiate tells a story, and Jennifer and Robert’s Jewish wedding in Englewood, New Jersey, was a tale woven with love, tradition, and humor. Their ceremony, held in Jennifer’s parents’ backyard, was both intimate and joyous—a reflection of who they are as a couple and the community that surrounds them.

A Home Full of Memories
Before the larger ceremony, we gathered for an intimate ketubah signing in the dining room where Jennifer grew up having dinner with her family. There was something profoundly meaningful about witnessing this moment in a space so rich with memories. The ketubah, the Jewish marriage contract, is more than a document—it is a sacred agreement, a foundation upon which Jennifer and Robert would build their future together. In the quiet of that room, surrounded by their closest loved ones, they took their first official step as a married couple.

Under the Chuppah: A Symbol of Unity
Later, in the backyard, family and friends gathered for the ceremony under a chuppah filled with symbolism. Both sets of parents stood alongside Jennifer and Robert, embodying the love and guidance that has shaped them. The chuppah itself, open on all sides, represented the home they would create together—one built on a foundation of love, laughter, and shared traditions.
The Vows: A Blend of Humor and Heart
Jennifer and Robert exchanged personal vows, and while every word was filled with meaning, Robert’s vows carried an extra dose of humor. As an aspiring comedian, he couldn’t resist punching up his lines, weaving laughter into his heartfelt promises. It was a true reflection of their relationship—deeply loving, yet never taking life too seriously, even on his wedding day.

Blessings for Love, Life, and the Earth
Jewish weddings are rich with blessings, and Jennifer and Robert chose to add a unique touch to theirs. In addition to the traditional blessing over the wine, they also blessed water—a gesture honoring the earth and symbolizing prosperity and sustenance. This addition spoke to their shared values and the importance of gratitude for the world around them. It was a beautiful moment that reminded all of us of the sacredness of both love and nature.
Mazel tov, Jennifer and Robert—may your life together be as joyful and love-filled as the day you said, "I do."
